PORTLAND LGBTQ+
HISTORY PROJECT
Client: City of Portland Bureau of Planning & Sustainability

With Salazar Architects, this project included a survey of historic LGBTQ+ places in Portland and the nomination of 3 places to the National Register. Two of these places, Erv Lind Field at NE 57th and Halsey and the Crystal Hotel on W Burnside, were added to the National Register in 2024, and a third, the Juniper House, an early hospice during the AIDS crisis, was added in 2025.(Photo: Erv Lind Florists National Champion women's softball team, c. 1950.)

TWO CARNEGIE LIBRARY RENOVATIONS
Client: LEVER Architects

METRO hired Lever architects to renovate, add onto, and completely update two existing historic libraries in N and NE Portland: The North Portland and Albina libraries. As the historic consultant, I provided internal feedback and advice, as well as completing documentation about the effect of the changes on the historic properties and helping with the presentation to the local jurisdiction. These libraries are both gorgeous examples of modernized historic buildings!

COMPATIBLE CHANGE (HISTORIC) CODE PROJECT
Client: City of Oregon City

I led the Oregon City Historic Review Board through decisions about their historic code in 2025. There were two projects, one to specify what window types could be approved over the counter for noncontributing properties in historic districts (Windows project) as well as an in-depth study of what projects should be encouraged and what metrics to use in conservation districts. The Board ended up supporting the idea that certain small additive residential projects could be exempt from review.
