Minor Planning & Design Services
I started Minor Planning & Design because I like to help people solve design-related challenges. I have expertise in a wide range of issues, from City land use planning and regulation to National Park Service nominations and documentation to alterations and design advice. I can help you identify achievable goals and the steps to get there.
Planning and Land Use
My planning background provides extensive experience with zoning code and regulatory projects of many scales, including land use approvals for design and historic reviews in Portland and in other jurisdictions. I have completed historic district design guidelines and have done multiple planning studies at "micro" (site) and "macro" (overview) scales. I currently sit on the Portland Historic Landmarks Commission.
If your project requires working with the National Park Service, with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO, or "DAHP" in Washington), or with various other regulatory agencies, I can help you determine what processes you need and how to gain approvals. I have successfully completed many historic nominations, research and context statements, surveys, HABS/HAER, advocacy, trainings and presentations, survey work, and other services related to incentives, documentation, and adaptive re-use.
I can provide design concepts for alterations to your existing building, adaptive reuse ideas, and architectural advice for small-scale projects. (I may be able to refer you to an architect or a drafting service if you need buildable plans.) If you are hoping to update, add features or more space, or find a new or better use for an existing building, I can help you achieve your vision.
